An oil field in New Zealand need a pump that could pump produced water from a well at a rate of 1,000l/min @ 1,000psi 3 – 4km back to a treatment plant (which also included going up and over a hill). Some of the challenges faced included the high salt content of the water (greater than 2%) and the fact that the pump was going to be in a hazardous area.
CASE STUDIES
GBT Thickened Sludge Pumps
Pump & Valve were asked to quote on 2 x pumps for pumping GBT thickened sludge at a large treatment plant in the South Island. GBT thickened sludge is not an easy liquid to pump furthermore the pumps needed to be reliable and offer long service life.
Coal Mine Fines Pumping
Pump & Valve were called in to look at some end suction dry mounted pumps that were pumping water containing high levels of coal fines out of a dam and into a treatment plant. The existing pumps had priming and wear issues – and typical life was only 6 months. The duty required was 175l/sec @ 45m head.
Pumping waste from an abattoir
A large abattoir need a pump for pumping waste out of a breaker and into some bins. The ‘waste’ consisted of lumps of fat, skin, intestines, the odd hoof and whatever else could find its way into the drain! One of the challenges was that the flow was inconsistent and the media would range from being very watery to being very thick.
