Wilo Atmos Pump and Valve NZ

When a building’s heating or cooling system runs around the clock, the pump is not where you want surprises. The Wilo Atmos range is a family of glanded, set-speed pumps built for dependable, straightforward operation in commercial, industrial, municipal and agricultural settings. As the official Wilo distributor in New Zealand, Pump & Valve supplies two of its most popular models: the Atmos GIGA-I in-line pump and the Atmos GIGA-B monobloc end-suction pump.

What is the Wilo Atmos range?

Atmos pumps use set-speed technology, meaning they run at a fixed motor speed. This keeps the design simple, robust and easy to maintain. They suit installations where flow requirements are stable, or where speed is managed separately through external controls.

Wilo Atmos GIGA-I: in-line circulator pump

The GIGA-I is Wilo’s universal glanded pump for heating, air-conditioning and cooling applications in large buildings. It is a glanded pump in in-line design, with the suction and discharge on the same axis, so it fits straight into existing pipework.

Key features and benefits

  • Compact in-line design. It is a glanded pump with flange connections, designed for heating water, chilled water and water-glycol mixtures without abrasive substances. Because it sits in the pipeline, it saves floor space and simplifies installation.
  • Wide size range. The range covers pipe connections from DN 50 up to DN 250, with motors from 0.55 kW to 160 kW in the catalogue listings, so there is a model for small plant rooms and large central plants alike.
High-efficiency motors. Listed models use IE3 or IE4 efficiency-class motors, which keeps running costs down on pumps that operate for thousands of hours a year.
  • Easy maintenance. An optional back pull-out design and cartridge mechanical seal on larger pumps make servicing simpler.
  • Lightweight cast iron construction. Wilo’s design keeps the weight of the cast iron components as low as possible.
  • Built-in monitoring point. A flange connection with an R 1/8 pressure measuring connection makes commissioning and checking duty points easier.
  • Options for demanding sites. ATEX approval is available for industrial environments, and a higher-pressure variant is available on request.

Typical applications: commercial building heating, chilled water circuits, cooling systems, and water-glycol loops.

Wilo Atmos GIGA-B: DIN standard monobloc end-suction pump

The GIGA-B is a glanded pump in monobloc design, suited to moving water in a wide variety of building types. The impeller mounts directly on the motor shaft, which makes for a compact, space-saving unit.

Key features and benefits

  • Standardised dimensions. Performance and main dimensions follow EN 733, the European standard commonly referred to as DIN for end-suction pumps. This makes it compatible with many existing close-coupled end-suction pumps, which is valuable for replacement and upgrade projects.
  • Corrosion protection. All cast iron components carry a cataphoretic coating, giving high corrosion resistance and a long service life.
  • Wide operating range. The permissible temperature range is -20 °C to +140 °C, and maximum operating pressure is 16 bar, with 25 bar available on request.
  • Energy savings. State-of-the-art hydraulics and IE3/IE4 motors deliver energy savings.
  • Flexible configuration. A choice of impeller materials, motor options and mechanical seals suits a wide range of applications.
  • Simple installation. Standard pump support feet and optional supporting blocks keep mounting straightforward.
  • Sizes and protection. Pipe connections run from DN 32 to DN 150, with IP55 protection. ATEX-approved versions and a special version for water supply applications are also available.

Typical applications: heating and cooling circuits, chilled water systems, building water supply, and industrial process water.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Wilo Atmos GIGA-I and GIGA-B?
The GIGA-I is an in-line pump, with suction and discharge on the same axis, so it sits directly in the pipework. The GIGA-B is a monobloc end-suction pump, where the impeller mounts directly on the motor shaft. In-line suits tight spaces, while end-suction suits standard plant room layouts.

What does “set-speed pump” mean?
A set-speed pump runs at a fixed motor speed rather than adjusting automatically to demand. This keeps the design simple and robust, and it suits systems where flow is stable or speed is managed through separate controls.

What fluids can the Atmos GIGA pumps handle?
The GIGA-I is designed for heating water (in accordance with VDI 2035), chilled water and water-glycol mixtures without abrasive substances. The GIGA-B is suited to heating water, water-glycol mixtures, cooling water and chilled water, also without abrasives.

What temperature and pressure can the GIGA-B handle?
The permissible temperature range is -20 °C to +140 °C. Maximum operating pressure is 16 bar, with 25 bar optionally available on request.

Can the GIGA-B replace an existing end-suction pump?
Often, yes. Its main dimensions follow EN 733, so it is compatible with many existing close-coupled end-suction pumps. Always confirm the flange sizes, footprint and duty point before swapping.

Are Atmos GIGA pumps energy efficient?
The GIGA-B uses IE3 and IE4 motors alongside modern pump hydraulics to save energy. The GIGA-I catalogue also lists IE3 and IE4 motor options.

Are ATEX versions available?
Yes. The GIGA-I is available with ATEX approval for industrial environments.

Can I add external controls to an Atmos pump?
Wilo lists optional extras for the GIGA-B including SC-HVAC and CC-HVAC control systems and switchgear, as well as PTC thermistor protection. Ask our team which options suit your application.
