Packaged Fibreglass Pumpstation Watercare Pukekohe

The successful installation of a packaged fibreglass pump station at Ngahere Road, Pukekohe marks another milestone for Pump & Valve Specialties Ltd, with the project delivered ahead of schedule and ready for the next stage of construction.

Designed to serve the growing Kohe development and its future 415 residential lots, the new Watercare wastewater pump station has now been set in place, levelled, and prepared for final connections and backfilling. Manufactured using durable glass reinforced plastic (GRP) construction, the packaged fibreglass pump station combines corrosion resistance, long service life, and efficient installation, making it ideally suited to demanding wastewater applications.

Building Capacity for a Growing Community

At the heart of the project is a complete Packaged Fibreglass Pump Station engineered to Watercare standards. The GRP construction offers significant advantages over traditional materials, including corrosion resistance, reduced maintenance requirements, and faster installation, while providing the strength required for long-term wastewater service.

For the Kohe development, the packaged pump station solution includes:

  • A 3.5m diameter x 6.94m deep GRP wet well with an integral valve chamber
  • Twin 22kW Flygt NP 3171 wastewater pumps operating on variable speed drives (VSDs)
  • 250mm 316 stainless steel pipework
  • Four horizontal GRP emergency storage tanks, each measuring 3.0m diameter x 16.6m long
  • A purpose-built GRP magflow chamber incorporating a 250mm ABB flow meter and dismantling joint
  • Full compliance with Watercare standards, including design documentation, control systems, and operation and maintenance manuals

The result is a complete wastewater transfer and storage solution designed to support the development both now and into the future.

Emergency Storage Designed for Performance

One of the standout aspects of this installation is the emergency storage system.

The four large-capacity GRP storage tanks provide critical overflow protection during power outages, maintenance activities, or unexpected network events. Each tank incorporates a spray-ball washdown system that automatically cleans the storage tanks after an event, helping maintain hygiene, minimise maintenance requirements, and reduce operational costs over the life of the asset.

Why Early Delivery Matters

For civil contractors, timing is often just as important as the equipment itself.

Large excavations represent both risk and cost. Every additional day an excavation remains open can create programme delays, increase safety risks, and expose contractors to weather-related disruptions.

By manufacturing, delivering, and installing the wet well and emergency storage tanks when required, contractors can move directly into pipework connections, testing, and backfilling without unnecessary waiting periods.

This approach helps reduce programme risk, improves site productivity, and keeps critical infrastructure projects on schedule.

A Complete Package Approach

Pump & Valve Specialties supplied much more than individual components for this project. The solution was delivered as a fully integrated package, encompassing design, equipment selection, fabrication, control requirements, documentation, and compliance with Watercare standards.

This packaged approach simplifies project delivery by providing contractors and developers with a single point of responsibility from concept through to commissioning.

Our team can help develop the right pumping and storage solution from concept stage through to delivery, ensuring critical infrastructure is ready when your programme demands it. Whether you’re designing for a small subdivision or a large-scale development requiring significant emergency storage capacity, we’re here to help shape a package that keeps your project moving.
